The backstage reaction to CM Punk making reference to Vince McMahon during his WWE Raw promo segment has been revealed.

Punk made his return to WWE Raw on this week’s episode of the show in Chicago, where he, Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins entered a war of words that was very well received by fans.
One of the key talking points of the segment was Punk alluding to Vince McMahon without mentioning his name directly, when asking who anointed Drew as the ‘Chosen One’ back in the day.
In an update on the segment from PWInsider Elite, the entire segment was, obviously, very much improvised and off the cuff, with there being a general idea of where they would finish up, which was to get over the idea of CM Punk serving as the guest commentator for the World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania.

Other than the final destination, the segment was very much left up to the talents involved to play off of each other.
The reference to McMahon was met with a hush backstage, but once they got past that moment, there was no fallout from the reference.
The segment ended up going a lot longer than initially expected, but there was no heat on the talent involved due to the segment being such a great, well received moment.

Part of that was due to the fans chanting for Punk to be the referee for the match, which everyone played off and added into the segment, which meant the next few segments had some time cut to make up some of the time.
When the ratings for the show came out yesterday, and the segment was far and away the most viewed segment on Raw, there was said to have been a lot of excitement internally, feeling like they had established even more momentum for the WrestleMania match due to Punk setting up both Rollins and McIntyre to look as strong as he did, leaving the door open for matches with both men when Punk is cleared.
Once source noted that Punk had a match with Rollins that fans wanted to see lined up when he went down, but he now has two big matches that fans are wanting to see later in the year.
Rollins is also set to be a part of the night one main event, teaming with Cody Rhodes against Roman Reigns and The Rock.
