There has been an update on the funds used by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority to host WWE SummerSlam next year.
The first ever two night WWE SummerSlam is set to take place in 2025, when the show heads to New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on August 2 and 3, 2025.
In an update on the show from the Sports Business Journal, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority have approved a resolution to allocate $7.125M to be used to help the city host the show.
The money is part of the American Rescue Plan funding the state received from the federal government during the COVID-19 pandemic, which can be used to ‘respond to the negative economic impacts of the public health emergency by providing aid to impacted industries, such as tourism, travel and hospitality’.
The resolution also mentions that the authority expects the event to ‘generate over $80 million in total economic impact for the region’.
NJSEA spokesperson Brian Aberback said that the agency is in the process of finalizing it’s funding application to the state Department of Community Affairs, which handles such grants, and expects that the funds will be disbursed following the execution of a memorandum of understanding with the NJDCA regarding the use of the funds
