Tony Khan has opened up about the possibility of expanding AEW Dynamite to three hours saying it “gives more opportunities.”

At present, AEW produced five hours of television with AEW Dynamite, Rampage and Collision across three nights.
Occasionally, Rampage and Collision have aired on the same night for a three-hour block of AEW television.

Speaking to CBS Sports about the benefit of three hours of AEW, Tony Khan said:
“I love being able to do more follow-up with things that happened earlier in the night with more time.
“Being able to cover more wrestlers and tell more stories, utilize more of the roster.
“I think it gives more opportunities when we have that three-hour block.”

With an ‘unplanned’ Will Ospreay promo from the May 22 episode of AEW Dynamite on his mind, Khan discussed the possibility of using that in a hypothetical third hour, saying:
“If I had seen that I would have moved stuff around later in the third-hour block to get that on TV the same night.
“Those are the things you can do when you get really good footage and have more time to play with. There are all kinds of opportunities it creates to follow up. I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Khan would go on to say that he is “very open” to doing more three-hour blocks of television and said there is a “good chance” that AEW fans could see this happen.
Speaking about that third hour being an extension of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday night’s, Khan stressed:
“You want to keep Dynamite as strong as possible.
“You look at the history of what happened with the two-hour wrestling show when that show was expanded to three hours. It’s interesting right now per hour the most we get per hour for any of our TV shows is Dynamite.
“Either way, five-hour weekly programming is the absolute minimum.”

He would note that “that would be very lucrative” and admitted it’s a “very interesting conversation” before going on to say he has “tasted blood” and “could easily be sold on doing more than five hours.”
AEW is currently in an exclusive media rights negotiation window with its broadcast partner, Warner Bros Discovery, with Dave Meltzer recently exploring the belief that Khan was “disappointed” by the proposed offer.
