The August 21, 2024 episode of AEW Dynamite took place in Cardiff, Wales and featured a match between Chris Jericho and Tommy Billington.
Despite the warm reception from the fans at the Utilita Arena, the match didn’t pan out in Billington’s favor.
After ‘The Redwood’ (Big Bill) and ‘The Bad Apple’ (Bryan Keith) interjected themselves into proceedings, Jericho countered Billington’s flying headbutt with the Codebreaker – resulting in Jericho taking the win.
Afterwards, AEW cameras caught up with Billington, with the 23-year-old reflecting on what had occurred in the match.
Billington said:
“What’s going through my head is, I let my people down. It’s been my dream for a very long time to wrestle in front of my home country.
“Today, I was on the cusp of victory. I got too carried away. Chris caught me with a Codebreaker and got the victory.”
Billington would go on to make his future plans rather clear, stating:
“I’m sick of outside interference. Next time you see me, I’m coming to kill.
“Tom Billington from here forward is coming to invade, kill, and conquer.”
Billington is the nephew of the legendary ‘Dynamite Kid’ Tom Billington, adopting the former WWE Tag Team Champion’s ring name.
Tommy Billington made his AEW debut in May 2024 facing Dax Harwood on Collision with his recent Dynamite appearance marking his third match in the company.
Along with losses to Harwood, Billington also lost to Konosuke Takeshita in July 2024 on AEW Collision.
