AEW President Tony Khan has addressed the decision to book Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay on free TV rather than on pay-per-view.

On this week’s AEW Dynamite it was confirmed that Ricochet and Will Ospreay’s first match in seven years would take place on the October 2 Dynamite fifth anniversary show, rather than at an upcoming PPV such as WrestleDream on October 12.
This decision has been questioned by some fans online considering the anticipation for the bout, however, this is a strategy that AEW have implemented many times in recent years.
CM Punk’s first bouts with MJF and Jon Moxley in 2022, both first took place on TV before rematches were booked on PPV, or more recently with Will Ospreay and MJF who battled for almost a full hour on Dynamite before facing off again at All In London.

Whilst speaking to Dave LeGreca of Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan was asked about the decision to book Ricochet vs. Ospreay on Dynamite, to which he said:
“That’s why I think it makes perfect sense with these big stages. We have the greatest roster ever. There is an unlimited supply of huge matches. These are matches that have been building since the people arrived at AEW.”

Before October’s AEW Dynamite fifth anniversary show and WrestleDream, AEW will first stage Grand Slam on September 25, featuring bouts such as Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin, The Young Bucks vs. Will Ospreay & Kyle Fletcher and Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness – if Danielson is cleared to compete.
