There has been some backstage information on Sting’s upcoming retirement match at AEW Revolution and what went into it.

Wrestling icon Sting is set to retire from the industry after 40 years at AEW Revolution in Greensboro, with many wondering who his final opponent would be on the night.
On last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, it was seemingly revealed that his last match would be teaming with Darby Allin against the Young Bucks, and we now know more information on the thought process behind the match.

Per Fightful Select, Sting has had a major say in who his opponent or opponents would be on the event.
Fightful notes that Sting has been more keen on continuing in tag team action as opposed to singles action, which he has noted in the past.

As for the Young Bucks, they were seemingly teased to be Sting and Darby’s final opponents on last night’s show, which was said to be ‘actively the plan’, and one that Sting was on board with.
Fightful was told that Sting getting the right send off has been a very important thing for Tony Khan, and that pretty much whatever he wants in the build to his send off, AEW has been willing to make happen.
Ric Flair has not been considered for any in-ring performances, though he has been actively pushing to do more physical spots on the show.
