A big update has emerged on AEW pay-per-view distribution, with the company no longer showing their major events at movie theaters.
AEW fans were previously able to watch pay-per-view events live at select movie theaters in the US.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW made the decision to stop airing their PPVs on the big screen.
Noting that AEW is still working with Joe Hand Promotions to air events in select locations, Meltzer wrote:
AEW PPV shows will no longer be airing in movie theaters. It was an AEW call. It’s too bad because it was always talked about what a fun experience it was.
They are still working with Joe Hand Promotions but it’s about closed-circuiting the shows into places like Dave and Busters and Tom’s Watch Bars, but only a few locations.
For example, in the state of California the only showings are at a Tom’s location in Los Angeles and another in Sacramento.
This weekend’s AEW Revolution premium live event will feature Sting’s retirement match, with the Icon set to team with Darby Allin to face off against Matthew and Nicholas Jackson of the Young Bucks.
