Former AEW World Tag Team Champion Jack Perry has disputed recent reports and claims his AEW release was denied.
At NJPW Battle In The Valley, Jack Perry made his New Japan Pro Wrestling debut by attacking Shota Umino. Since then, Perry has competed in the New Japan Cup tournament and joined the House of Torture faction.
Perry’s NJPW debut marked his first appearance in a pro wrestling ring since AEW All In London where he got into a backstage altercation with CM Punk that led to his suspension and Punk’s firing from the company.
Recent reports have indicated that AEW CEO Tony Khan may have still been angry with Perry over the incident, but Khan said in a recent interview that the former Jungle Boy will be back in All Elite Wrestling.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter earlier today that “the way we’ve heard it”, Perry didn’t hear back from Tony Khan after the incident, despite attempting to apologize.
However now, according to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, Jack Perry claims that he asked for his AEW release and it was denied following the events of AEW All In London at Wembley Stadium.
After the show, Perry claims that he did not hear back from Tony Khan for two months. He said that he never texted to say he was sorry and told Khan’s lawyers he would not initiate first contact.
Khan eventually set up an in-person meeting before Full Gear where they discussed plans to bring Perry back last December. However, CM Punk’s return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 caused AEW to scrap the plans for Perry’s comeback.
The AEW star had wanted to work NJPW Wrestle Kingdom, but he was unable due to a logistical reasons. He then worked with Rocky Romero and Khan to set up his NJPW run.
Despite still being under AEW contract, Perry said there are still no plans for his return. He also hasn’t talked to Tony Khan in months.
Also, Jack Perry hasn’t cleared anything he has done in storyline with NJPW like him tearing up his AEW contract at Battle In The Valley or his use of the new nickname, “Scapegoat.”
It’s potentially unclear where storyline and reality cross over in this story, but the above is what Bryan Alvarez reported are Jack Perry’s claims.
