WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler is highly unlikely to reunite with Jim Ross in AEW according to a recent report.
It was previously reported that WWE “quietly declined” to renew Lawler’s on-air contract which expired at the “onset of 2024”.
While he may no longer have a broadcast contract, it was also reported that Lawler does still have a WWE Legends deal.
With fans calling for Lawler to reunite with his former commentary colleague Jim Ross in AEW, Fightful has provided details of the likelihood of that happening.
According to Fightful, their AEW sources have stated that Lawler’s name “hasn’t been brought up” in relationship to a Ross reunion.
The report further notes that Lawler “doesn’t follow AEW” and reportedly “doesn’t watch much of any wrestling anymore.”
With a wrestling career that started in 1970, Fightful notes that Lawler has “also gone over a year without wrestling for the first time in his career.”
Their sources note that he is “likely also done in the ring” and that he is “still feeling the effects of the stroke” he suffered in February 2023.
Lawler commented on his WWE broadcast career coming to an end in an interview with PWInsider, saying that “commentating on a match again was extremely difficult”.
Booker T has recently stated that he didn’t see Lawler’s departure coming, referring to The King as “part of this family for so long.”
WWE removed Lawler from the current roster on its official website.
