With the Lucha Brothers reportedly heading to WWE, a potential obstacle has reportedly been placed in front of Rey Fenix by AEW.

As previously reported, it was expected that Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo would be heading to WWE when their AEW contracts expire.
It had been reported that the pair were seeking a “package deal” that would see them head straight to the main roster.
With Fenix having suffered injuries during his time in AEW, Dave Meltzer had previously discussed the possibility of time being added to his contract.

Dave Meltzer has now provided an update on Tony Khan using that option in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, writing:
As far as Fenix goes, right now AEW is tacking on injury time which is nearly but not quite one year.

Meltzer would also reveal that attempts had been made to keep the Lucha Bros in AEW, noting:
Khan made both significant offers to stay but they wouldn’t sign a new deal.

Fenix recently shared a thank you message to the wrestling business on social media.
Matt Hardy recently discussed the possibility of the pair arriving in WWE, saying it would “be huge”.
Rey Fenix is a former AEW International Champion and has held both the World Tag Team Championship (with Penta) and the World Trios Championship (with Penta and Pac).
