WWE appears to be moving forward with a new show concept based on a recent trademark application filing with the USPTO.
On December 15, two matches took place during that evening’s WWE SmackDown tapings that featured WWE Speed branding around the ring.
The matches were reportedly ‘filmed as if they’d be broadcasted’ though it wasn’t clear whether this was just a concept being trialled or a new show that was actually going to air.
On December 17, a filing appeared on the United States Patent and Trademark Office for ‘WWE Speed’ referring to the mark as:
“WWE SPEED™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing wrestling news and information through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information.”
On February 7, 2024, a new application was submitted to the USPTO, with the details as follows:
“Production, exhibition and distribution of professional wrestling events rendered live and through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing wrestling news and information through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing a website in the field of wrestling information”
The new application lists Lauren A. Dienes-Middlen as the “attorney of record”.
It’s not clear, from the filing, how WWE Speed will eventually be presented to viewers whether that be as a separate show or an element within an existing product.
