Ahead of WWE Elimination Chamber, a seemingly staged incident saw Austin Theory very nearly come to blows with an Australian journalist.
In an incident reminiscent of Grayson Waller’s anger towards a Sunrise journalist who questioned whether wrestling was fake, Theory had an unusually similar run-in with a journalist from The West Australian, their editor-in-chief Anthony De Ceglie.
According to The West Australian report, ‘friendly banter got serious’ after Theory ‘took offence’ over claims from De Ceglie that wrestling is ‘fake’ and not as ‘hard’ as Australian Rules football or Rugby League.
In response, an ‘angry’ Theory is quoted as saying:
“You brought me here and you’re going to talk to me like this?
“Just cause you’re in charge of some s**t doesn’t mean you can talk to me like this.
“You’re saying what I do is easy and you’re in front of all of your people talking about my job is easy … you couldn’t walk a damn day in my shoes.
“Are you kidding me man? I will smack the s**t outta you right now.
“I’m not playing around. Y’all bring me all the way out here for some media and this guy is talking his f**king head off.
“What’s his problem?”
Security supposedly intervened to prevent the situation from getting any worse, with a staff member suspiciously called ‘Kay Fabe’ commenting:
“I was seriously worried about what was going to happen.
“Thankfully security stepped in. Anthony was genuinely worried.”
If you’re a die-hard wrestling fan, you’ll understand the Kay Fabe reference and what it means.

The incident looks to have been staged as another way to promote WWE Elimination Chamber in Perth this weekend.
