There has been an update on the status of the WWE Tag Team Championships amid Jacob Fatu’s absence from TV.

WWE SummerSlam on August 3 saw Jacob Fatu get ‘a little banged up’ following his involvement in the Cody Rhodes vs Solo Sikoa match.
Not only did this prevent Fatu from confronting Roman Reigns upon his return at SummerSlam, but Fatu was also absent from the following week’s SmackDown (August 9), with a ‘growing belief‘ backstage that he was legitimately injured.
With Fatu’s status uncertain, Dave Meltzer has provided an update on the plans for the WWE Tag Team Championships in the absence of Jacob Fatu.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer revealed the internal logic over the championships, saying:
“The champions are whoever two men Solo picks, so Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa can defend them, Jacob Fatu when he comes back can defend them.
“They never did explain this on television but this is the WWE explanation.”

Meltzer also revealed the plans for Jacob Fatu and Roman Reigns, stating that WWE plans to keep the pair apart.
Fatu made his debut on the June 21 episode of WWE SmackDown, with it later being reported that the company has been ‘thrilled‘ with his work.
