On tonight’s AEW Dynamite, a match for Mercedes Mone was announced for Forbidden Door and it was confirmed to be title vs title.
In a pre-taped segment, Mercedes Mone spoke about her last run-in with Stephanie Vaquer in the original NJPW Strong Women’s Championship tournament.
Mone won the match against Vaquer, but went on to lose the final to Willow Nightingale after suffering an injury during the match, leading to plans for Mone winning to be changed.
With Mone noting that she felt she brought out the violence in Vaquer, they will again face off at AEW Forbidden Door on pay-per-view in a match where both of their titles are on the line.
The winner will walk out as both the AEW TBS Champion, currently held by Mone, and NJPW Strong Women’s Championship, currently held by Vaquer.
Also announced tonight for Forbidden Door, Toni Storm defends the AEW Women’s World Championship against Mina Shirakawa.
Elsewhere on tonight’s show, Kris Statlander slapped Orange Cassidy before being being chased off by Willow Nightingale, teasing a potential mixed tag match in the future with Nightingale and Cassidy vs Statlander and Trent Beretta.
