The real reason CM Punk paid a visit to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida today has been revealed.
Fans on social media may have seen a new TikTok being shared around of Punk at the Performance Center with NXT stars Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade.
Punk was indeed at the Performance Center today (July 17), but it was for a bigger reason than just filming TikToks.
As reported by PWInsider, CM Punk was at the PC “in the ring working to get officially cleared by WWE medical”.
That would mean, at least before today, Punk was not medically cleared.
He’d stated after Clash at the Castle that he was hoping to be able to announce he was cleared as of the SmackDown after, which would have been June 21.
Dave Meltzer has repeatedly reported of late that WWE has been hopeful to lock in Punk vs Drew McIntyre for SummerSlam, but it’s been dependent on Punk being cleared, which again, before today, evidently hadn’t happened.
PWInsider’s report doesn’t state whether or not Punk is cleared coming out of today, just that he was there to work towards that.
Seth Rollins has become involved in the McIntyre/Punk storyline, but Meltzer reported that WWE’s plan was still a singles match between McIntyre and Punk.
