CM Punk has responded to his critics waiting for the “old CM Punk” to resurface in WWE amid his current run with the company.

Given CM Punk’s controversial WWE departure in 2014 and his drama-filled AEW exit last Summer, many fans questioned how successful the Best in the World’s return to WWE would be after he showed up at the end of Survivor Series 2023.
Despite an injury setback in his return match at the 2024 Royal Rumble, Punk’s second run in the company has seemingly been a massive positive for both WWE and Punk himself – so much so that WWE are reportedly seeking to lock Punk in to an improved contract.
While the evidence paints a healthy picture, Punk is always going to have critics – and in an interview with Michael Cole on the Countdown to SummerSlam, Punk was asked what he would say to those waiting for the “old CM Punk” to rear his head and potentially walk out of the company once again.

Punk responded saying:
“They’re bigger fans than my biggest fans. Nobody watches you more than your biggest hater, and to me they’re just the flip side of the fan coin. They’re all fans, everybody pays attention to what CM Punk does.
“CM Punk is polarizing, yes. He’s the first guy to reach into his pocket and help you out with some money, or the first guy to punch you in the face, it says more about them than it does me.
“What’s more motivating than when someone says you cannot? I think that’s been the basis of my entire life, let alone my entire career.
“That’s what has made me popular, being different, not conforming and just never taking no for an answer.”

At SummerSlam Punk is set to face-off with the biggest critic he’s faced on WWE TV thus far: Drew McIntyre, while Seth Rollins – another man who has been vocally against Punk, officiates the match.
The match will be Punk’s first since suffering triceps tear at the Royal Rumble in January, and his first singles match in WWE since January 2014.
